J.F. Bader picked up his second fun run win in two weekends, while Akiko Hagiwara was just as impressive to win the women’s competition in the 2006 Ayuda Fun Run Saturday morning along Beach Road.

Bader topped a field of 38 runners who challenged the 5-kilometer course that began at the Kilili Beach. Participants ran north along the Beach Road Pathway to the turn-around point across of Triple J Motors. From there, the runners backtracked to Kilili Beach for the finish.

Bader, who on April 29 won the Club Elan Fun Run, was strong throughout the race as he ran like the wind and crossed the finish line in a sterling 16:29. Veteran roadrunner Yoshi Suzuki finished second overall after clocking in at 16:57, while Cesar Danao took home third place in a time of 17:24.

For her part, Hagiwara was the first female to conquer the course as she finished fourth overall in a time of 17:44. She was followed by Noriko Jim, who was second in the women’s competition and eighth overall, after running for 18:13. Mieko Motoyoshi placed third in 20:07.

The event, held as part of Marianas Visitors Authority’s celebration of May as Tourism Month, also served as a fundraising venue for the upcoming 6th Micronesian Games as all proceeds will be donated to the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee.

“Everything went smooth,” said Ed Diaz of MVA. “The participants enjoyed it and they were happy that MVA is giving the proceeds to the Micro Games committee. It was well coordinated, and a lot of that has to do with the volunteers from the Micro Games committee and Northern Marianas Athletics.”

The Ayuda Fun Run will also be held on Tinian, and is scheduled to hit on May 27 at 6am.

All proceeds from the Tinian event will go to the Tinian Little League Baseball Association and the Tinian Boy Scouts of America.
