Sanchez baffles Brewers, 3-0
Craig Sanchez showed off the stuff that made him last season’s Saipan Major League playoff MVP as the pitcher held the D’s Diner Brewers scoreless through nine innings on the hill to vault the Ford Rangers into second place with 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Sanchez sprinkled nine harmless hits throughout the game against only one strikeout and never gave up more than two players to connect in any inning, while his teammates scored with timely hitting and heads-up base running.
Right fielder Vince Sablan went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles and scored the eventual game winning run in the bottom of the second when catcher Jason Gay brought him home with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Sablan scored again when second baseman J.P. Sablan singled him home in the bottom of the seventh inning just moments after Roy Celis scored on an error. The second baseman went 2-for-3 with two base knocks and a run batted in while Celis went 1-for-3 with a double.
The win put the defending champions back in the touch with their winning ways by lifting them to a second place tie with the Northern Yankees at 4-3, but the talent-ridden squad will have to hustle if they hope to catch the first place Budweiser Kings (6-1)
Neither team was able to score through the first inning and a half until Sablan smacked a single in the bottom of the second. J.P. Sablan then advanced him to third with a base hit to put him in position for Gay to bring him home with the deep fly to left.
Both teams looked to light up the scoreboard, but it took the Rangers until the bottom of the seventh to change the 1-0 lead into a much stronger 3-0 advantage, which they maintained the rest of the way.
