John “Nunni” Cruz emerged from a field of top strikers and slicers to take the Saipan Golfers Association’s April Ace of the Month honors as his clubs and handicap propelled him to the top of the standings on Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Sablan took home an undisclosed amount of cash and an extra $25 for setting the SGA club record for his efforts on the course as he shot a 44 on the front nine and a 43 on the back to finish with a gross score of 87 before taking advantage of a 26 handicap for a net score of 61.

SGA secretary Larry Guerrero was hot on his tail with a net score of 65 on the day after his handicap adjusted his 38 on the front and 48 on the back 21 strokes. Guerrero also took home a secret stash of cash for taking second place, and while the duo dueled on the links, Art Guerrero bagged third with a net score of 66 after his 23 handicap made his 46 on the front and 43 on the back look like a gem.

Aside from their net scores, the duffers were also able to compete in the longest drive competition on two of the holes as well as four attempts for landing their drive closest to the pin.

March Ace Rick Kautz and January Ace Ed Manibusan earned the honors for the longest drives on the third and 14th fairways, respectively, while Steve Balmkrishna (6th), John Cepeda (8th), Juhg Eun Taeck (12th) and Larry Guerrero (15th) landed the closest to the pin titles.

Though details are still to be finalized, golfers can now look ahead to this month’s May Ace qualifier. For more information about the SGA, or their upcoming events, contact Guerrero by calling 287-1052, or president Ben Aldan by calling 234-3176.
