Ex-conservation head is new Labor chief
Department of Labor Secretary Gil M. San Nicolas has appointed a former conservation supervisor at the Division of Fish and Wildlife as the new Labor director.
San Nicolas disclosed to Saipan Tribune yesterday that effective Monday Robert Norita Magofna replaced Dean Tenorio as director for the Division of Labor.
Tenorio, who served as Labor director in the past four years, is now assigned at the Labor Enforcement Unit to assist in the investigation of labor cases.
San Nicolas said Magofna is not a stranger to the department as both of them used to work at the Labor Processing Unit. He said he has confidence in Magofna, considering that he used to work at the department and has a strong enforcement background.
“ As a matter of fact 18 years ago we started working together. He moved down to the enforcement unit of the Division of Fish and Wildlife. …He’s been there for a long time. He’s got the enforcement experience,” the secretary said.
When sought for comment, Magofna said he is very happy that the secretary expressed his trust and faith in his ability to help the department.
“We need to get our guys to work on a lot of pending labor cases that we’re facing right now,” he said.
The new Labor director said he and San Nicolas know each other for quite sometime now and that they have the chemistry needed for a good teamwork.
Magofna joined Labor in 1987 where he was a labor law specialist 3 until he moved in 1996 to the Division of Fish and Wildlife. After serving 10 years at the Division of Fish and Wildlife, he resigned last week to return to Labor.
