The Marianas Visitors Authority is gearing up for its annual community event, the Ayuda Fun Run, as part of celebrations for the tourism month of May.

This community event has assisted a number of non-profit organizations, with the proceeds going directly to these groups. This is where the event name stems from, “Ayuda,” which means “Help.”

“The MVA is continuing this program to support our community as they too have supported our events. The community is essential to our tourism industry. A visitor may actually have pleasant encounters with the people who live here. These experiences help our industry grow,” said MVA acting managing director Tess Castro.

The Saipan event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 6, 2006 and will commence at 6am. Check-in time is 5:15am to 5:45am. The five-kilometer route for the Saipan run is from Kilili Beach Park to Triple J Motors and back. Proceeds from the Saipan run goes to the Micronesian Games.

The Tinian event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 27, and will commence at 6am. Check-in time is at 5:15am to 5:45am. The five-kilometer route for the Tinian run is from Taga Beach to M&F Corp. and back. All proceeds from the Tinian run goes to Tinian Little League Baseball Association and the Tinian Boy Scouts of America.

Applications are available at the Marianas Visitors Authority Saipan and Tinian offices. For more information contact David Ada or Frank Tudela at 664-3200. (PR)
