These days young people are so concerned about their looks but they need to remember that everyone is unique and has special qualities to improve on and be confident about, said 14-year-old Mark Damien Castro Sonoda, who was crowned Sunday as Mt. Carmel’s Mr. Model of the year.

Beauty and brains Jadyn Michelle Tenorio Cabrera, 16, who knows her school’s values—Faith, Excellence, and Success—by heart breezed through the question and answer portion of the pageant, and went home with the Ms. Model of the year crown.

Cabrera readily cited the values as some of the important lessons learned in school that would help her succeed in her career.

During the event held at the Theater Hall of the Hotel Nikko Saipan Sunday night, both top winners received other awards.

Cabrera, daughter of Max and Margaret Cabrera, also won the Ms. Photogenic award, while Sonoda, son of Erica and Tom Thornburgh, was adjudged Mr. Poise.

First runners-up were pairs No. 3 Jadine Torres Sablan, 14, and Victorino “Champ” T. Untalan, 14.

Sablan, who exudes charm, confidence, and great style, also received Ms. Congeniality and Best in Formal Wear awards.

Untalan, who played the ukulele during the competition, was Best in Talent and Mr. Congeniality.

Sablan is the daughter of John and Barbara Sablan, while Untalan is son of Pedro and Elizabeth Untalan.

Second runners-up were Francine Roberto Babauta, 13, and Christopher Centero Ching, 17.

Babauta is the daughter of Franklin and Celina Babauta, while Ching is son of Wilfredo Ching and Violeta Centero.

Babauta won the Best in Sportswear and the Best in Catwalk for her “most gracious and elegant narrow walk” while Ching won Best in Sportswear and Mr. Looks.

Third runners-up are Jashlie Nicole Camacho, 13, and John Albert Almadin Benavente, 13.

Camacho is the daughter of Nacresia and Joseph Deleon Guerrero, while Benavente is the son of Fernando and Lorna Benavente.

Camacho also got the Ms. Spirit award, while Benavente was Mr. Catwalk and the Best in National Costume.

Fourth runners-up were crowd favorite Joanna Sablan Quitugua, 17, and Timothy Wylie Palacios Paez, 18.

Quitugua also received the Best Talent award and Ms. Poise, while Paez was named Mr. Spirit and the Best in Formal Wear.

Mr. Charity was Daniel Thomas Legazpi Kautz, 13, and Ms. Charity was another crowd favorite, Chandelle D. Mendoza, 14.

They received the awards for raising the biggest donations in the competition.

Total funds raised by the 24 candidates were not known as of press time.
