Jess Wabol continued his hot streak on the golf course by topping the third qualifier for the 6th Micronesian Games held last Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Unlike two weekends ago when he won the 4th Annual NMC Foundation Open and the first two qualifiers from the blue tee, Wabol didn’t win it all alone this time as he was in the good company of Sasaki Oliver and Adam Hardwick.

The three shot identical scores of four-over 76 to finish with the best scores in the third of a series of tournaments held from the blue tee to determine the duffers that will represent the CNMI in the regional and quadrennial sporting event set for June 23 to July 3 here on Saipan.

Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho and Tony Satur wound up three strokes back with 79s, followed by Jeff Taylor’s 72, Jack Sablan’s 86, Richard Pierce’s 87, and Richard Jones’ 92.

In the women’s side, Noriko Togawa continued her mastery of the red tee when she equaled Wabol, Oliver, and Hardwick’s 74. Daughter Yuko came in next with her 85, while Delle Grandinetti had an 89.

The final Micro Games qualifier would be held on May 20 at Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort. Coordinator Wabol has also set May 21 as a make-up day for golfers who missed a round. It will also be held at the COP golf course.

Wabol is expected to pick five golfers for the men’s team and the same number for the women’s team a month or two before the start of the Micro Games, which is set from June 23 to July 3 on Saipan.

Check in for both events is at 11am with tee time expected an hour later at 12pm.
