Palacios fires score to beat in RGA May Ace
Rex Palacios couldn’t have raised the bar any higher during Refaluwasch Golf Association’s May Ace of the Month qualifier last Saturday at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.
The former Public Auditor and current finance chief of the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee shot identical 37s in the front and back nine to finish with a gross score of 73 and minus his 10 handicap, Palacios came away with a low net score of 64.
Norman Tenorio was two shots off Palacios’ score with his 66. The 18-handicap ball striker got the score after carding a gross of 84. He had a 41 and 43 in the front and back nines.
Adam Hardwick edged junior golfer Charlie Jo for third place after the duo finished the round with identical net scores of 67. Hardwick beat Jo on a scorecard tiebreak from the front nine, 34.5-35.
Hardwick went 38-36 for a gross of 74, while Jo was 41-38 that was good for a pre-handicap score of 79. Hardwick and Jo sport handicaps of seven and 12, respectively.
The rest of the golfers that participated in the qualifier, with their net scores in parenthesis, were as follows: Junior golfer Ryan Kim (68); Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho (69); Tony Satur (70); Richard Pierce (70); Bill Kaipat (71); Gus Camacho (72); Louie Pelisamen (73); junior golfer Kim Chang (73); John Tagabuel (74); Mario Taitano (74); Joey Arriola (75); Jess Wabol (76); Sasaki Oliver (76); and Carlos Salas (80).
In the closet to the pin competition, Oliver took the prize in the third hole, while Pierce was tops in the 14th.
RGA also welcomed junior golfers Jo, Kim, and Chang to the organization after playing their first rounds with the kings and princes of the greens and fairways Saturday. All three are products of Yuna Driving Range along Middle Road in Gualo Rai.
