Badminton regulars who use the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium every Saturday will have to give way to the start of the 4th Annual Budweiser Cup BANMI Men’s Basketball League and the return of the BANMI Women’s Basketball League.

Division of Sports and Recreation staff Joe Mettao said the 4pm to 8pm Saturday schedule originally reserved for the sport has been given to the two basketball leagues, which will hold their opening today.

Mettao offered his apologies to badminton players, but in exchange offered the Oleai venue’s Sunday afternoon schedule beginning at 4pm, pending approval from DSR acting director Joe Lizama.

In related news, badminton players are being encouraged to adopt scoring in their games to quicken the pace of turnover at the courts. Matches between men should be a best-of-three affairs and up to 15 points, while matches between women are only up to 11.

Badminton players regularly play at the gym from 7:30am to 10:30am on weekdays. DSR charges $1 per day per player for the use of the facility’s lights. Regular badminton players are also in the process of setting up their organization.
