Senate confirms DelRosario for DPL
The Senate voted unanimously yesterday to confirm the appointment of John Del Rosario to serve as secretary of the Department of Public Lands.
The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations had recommended the confirmation of Del Rosario’s nomination and it was approved by the eight attending members in yesterday’s Senate session.
Sen. Maria Frica Pangelinan was absent from the meeting.
Sen. Henry San Nicolas, chairman of the appointments committee, expressed confidence that Del Rosario is qualified for the position.
Del Rosario was originally appointed to serve as Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s senior policy adviser. He was reassigned to the Department of Public Lands after the former Marianas Public Lands Authority was abolished as an autonomous agency.
Del Rosario had served in different capacities before he retired from public service in 1993. The positions he held during his 23-year career in the public sector included resident executive of the Indigenous Affairs Office and chief legislative consultant to the Legislature.
After his retirement, Del Rosario worked as researcher for Tan Holdings Corp. and as publisher of the Saipan Tribune.
He will receive an annual salary of $50,000 as DPL secretary.
