SBDC offers management workshops
With multiple languages spoken in the CNMI, have you experienced ineffective communication in the workplace? Does absenteeism, repeated tardiness and/or drug and alcohol abuse also give your organization headaches? Most likely, it does. If these issues have troubled you and you’d like some guidance toward improvement, you’ll want to attend the “Fundamental Skills of Communicating” and “Improving Employee Work Habits” workshops that will hosted by the NMC Small Business Development Center.
In the “Fundamental Skills of Communicating” workshop managers and team leaders will learn to design clear and concise messages, understand and comprehend non-verbal communication clues, improve listening skills, and overcome barriers to understanding…such as psychological, cultural and situational.
The “Improving Employee Work Habits” workshop will guide the manager in distinguishing between job performance and work habits, dealing with unsatisfactory work habits early in the process, clearly explaining unsatisfactory work habits that focuses on behavior, involving the team member in the process of correcting the behavior and building controls into the process of improving work habits.
Dr. Ken Shankweiler, principal of KIS Communications, is currently on Saipan to teach the courses. His seminars have been presented across America at major universities and to major corporations such as General Motors, Motorola and AT&T. He holds degrees in psychology and engineering and has spent more than 30 years in management. He has held titles of vice president, general manager and director of engineering. He is the former chairman of continuous improvement for a $4 billion Fortune 500 company.
You won’t want to miss these timely workshops. The fee for each workshop is $20. The Fundamental Skills of Communicating workshop will take place today, April 20, from 5:30pm until 8:30pm.
