The estimated $1 million budget that the American Memorial Park gets every year from the federal government is seen to go flat in the next few years, but service will not be affected, according to an official of the National Park Service.

M. Sarah Creachbaum, superintendent of the American Memorial Park on Saipan and the War in the Pacific National Historical Park on Guam, said that the parks’ budget was not expected to rise soon.

“There will be no great difference, but there will be no decline in service either,” she said.

The park service, she said, would continue to focus on maintaining employee safety and implementing small projects such as repair of the tennis court and other facilities.

Creachbaum reported that the American Memorial Park recently hired a new law enforcement officer.

Chief ranger Bryan Piercy is tasked, among other things, with maintaining security at the park, as well as preventing vandalism incidents at the park.

“We’ve been asking for this new position for a long time. It’s not a new need. It just took quite a while to be funded,” she said.
