Two terminated employees of Pizza Hut in Gualo Rai allegedly led two other men in breaking into the establishment and carting away a steel safe containing $2,843.44 in cash and checks, according to court papers.

Gentry Williams, 20; Reiner R. Lazaro, 19; Branson Saimon, 18; and Gregg P. Sasamoto, 19, were arrested for burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.

Williams and Lazaro used to be employees of Pizza Hut. Williams was terminated last month, while Lazaro in February 2006, court documents showed.

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman imposed a $5,000 cash bail on each defendant and set the preliminary hearing this Friday.

Members of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau’s Thief Apprehension Select Coalition served the arrest warrants on the four Friday afternoon.

Detective Simon T. Manacop stated in court documents that the four burglarized Pizza Hut and stole its steel safe in the early morning of April 9, 2006.

Manacop said two employees of the establishment discovered the break-in when they reported to work on April 9 at 5:51am and observed the damaged glass window near the cash register. Responding police officers learned that the safe—worth $5,000—and its contents amounting to $2,843.44 were missing.

Manacop said Williams and Lazaro went to Pizza Hut on April 8, placed an order at the carry out area, but then ate inside the restaurant. On Saturday early morning, a security guard at the building saw the suspects in the area.

Manacop said that during their investigation, Lazaro and Sasamoto confessed participation in the burglary, resulting in the recovery of the safe at Sasamoto’s farmhouse in As Gonno on April 10. Apparently, the suspects failed to open the safe.

Manacop said the defendants met two weeks ago at a bar in Garapan where Williams allegedly brought up the subject about bad management at Pizza Hut.

Manacop said the group then planned the break-in to steal the safe. The group first went to Pizza Hut on April 8 early morning, but they aborted the plan because security saw them. On April 9 at 1am, the group allegedly went back to the establishment to commit the crime.
