Fitial backs continuing education for Judiciary
In an unprecedented show of solidarity, CNMI Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, Palau President Tommy E. Remengasau Jr., American Samoa Gov. Togiola Tulafono, and Guam Gov. Felix P. Camacho have signed a letter urging the U.S. Congress to approve a 20-year judicial education fund for the American territories and freely associated states in the Pacific.
The 20-year funding program is designed to allow judges from around the Pacific Rim to participate in educational seminars that will promote more efficient and effective administration of justice. The project’s immediate goals are to assist the CNMI by raising the professional competence of court staff and judges by providing continuing education.
“On behalf of the CNMI Judiciary, I extend a sincere sen dangkulo na si yu’us ma’ase to Governor Fitial for his support and effort in helping procure federal funding for these continuing judicial education programs. Until our Commonwealth has the ability to create and fund its own education programs, we need to secure ongoing and consistent funding from outside the CNMI,” said acting Chief Justice Alexandro C. Castro. (PR)
