Techur gets redemption in win over Marlins
After getting the hook midway through the first inning for allowing seven runs off of seven hits, pitcher Marley Techur redeemed himself in the bottom of the seventh by driving in Juan Tenorio Jr. for the game-winning run as the Falcons edged the Marlins, 14-13, on Sunday at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
The Senior League action was in full swing at the Oleai Sports Complex as the teams needed a combined seven pitchers to get them through the offensive onslaught on Easter Sunday, and Techur got plenty of help from teammates Gerome Mira and Tenorio to help get the Falcons out of the early game jam.
Techur left the hill after getting shellacked for a slew of runs that put the Falcons down 7-0 in the top of the first, but Mira came in to stop the bleeding to get them out of the inning.
The Falcons quickly erased the deficit with an eight-run inning to take a one-run lead after one, but the Marlins went back to work with three scores in the top of the second.
Mira kept his cool and allowed three runs off of two hits and fanned four through the next two and a third innings before Tenorio closed out the final four innings with three runs and the strikeouts.
The trio also did well at the plate as Tenorio went 3-for-5 with a single, a pair of triples, and a run batted in, while Mira smacked a triple and stole a base and Techur left the game with a smile on his face thanks to his walk-off RBI.
Ryan Ada also brought his “A-game” as the infielder went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run batted in.
JUNIOR LEAGUE
DAN DAN JETS 5, FIELDERS 4
Jonathan Salas did it all for Dan Dan as the Jets overcame an early 2-0 deficit to nip the Fielders, 5-4, at Tan Ko Field in continuation of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association’s Junior League action on Sunday.
Salas went the distance for the Jets allowing four runs off of five hits and fanning seven through seven and picked up the bat to go 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, two runs batted in, and three stolen bases on the day.
The one-man-band got some help from back-up singers Jimmy Brel and Vicente Cepeda who went a combined 5-for-6 to lead the team’s offensive output. Brel went 2-for-2 with two base hits and an RBI while Cepeda went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and two ribbies.
The Fielders took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but lost their advantage when the Jets ripped off three runs in the bottom of the third to take a one-run lead The Jets added another run in the fourth but the Fielders were able to tie the game at four apiece when they scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
The Jets answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and Salas shut the door on a comeback by taking down the Fielders in one-two-three fashion in the top of the seventh.
