Last call for Liberation Day Queen candidates
“Take pride in your heritage. Represent your family, village community, and island.”
Thus said Liberation Day committee public information officer Reina Camacho, who recently made a last call for prospective candidates for the 2006 Liberation Day Queen.
Camacho said the deadline for application is this Friday.
She said the committee is seeking eligible young women to participate in the 60th liberation festivities as a Liberation Queen candidate.
Ethnic associations, civic organizations, church groups. and even government agencies may join the event by sponsoring a candidate.
“Candidates will keep 20 percent of all raffle ticket sales,” said Camacho.
Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 22 years, a resident of the Commonwealth, single, never been married, and of good moral character.
Interested individuals, groups or organizations can pick up an application at the Saipan Mayor’s Office in San Antonio or call Fe Camacho at 234-9272 or 234-9797. Applications are due at the Mayor’s Office on April 14.
Last year’s Liberation Day Queen, Yvonne Passi, and first runner-up Indira Jolin W. Kaipat will relinquish their crowns to this year’s queens.
The Queens Committee is looking at expanding its Liberation Day Queen pageant candidates this year to between 10 to 12 contestants, as the number is just right to complement the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Camp Susupe.
The pageant involves ticket selling as part of the criteria for winning the crown.
The Liberation Day Committee said that the celebration this year would be bigger because it would be the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Camp Susupe.
Past queens, grand marshals, former marshals, and mayors will be included in the 4th of July celebrations. The suggested theme for this year is “Liberasion Taotao Marianas,” which will be printed in three languages-Chamorro, Carolinian, and English.
