The Northern Marianas College Career Services, with financial and administrative support of the Northern Mariana Islands Occupational Information Coordinating Committee, will hold an NMC Career Fair on April 21 at the NMC Campus Bldg.-I hallway from 9am to noon.

Student project assistant Nicole Barcinas said the fair aims to expose students and individuals in the community to several career options and employment opportunities in the CNMI.

“Students will be able to retrieve career information regarding their prospective career interests and may eventually implement those resources into their objective educational goals,” Barcinas said yesterday in a statement.

NMIOICC is a federally funded program with offices at the NMC Saipan campus. The program’s mission is to deliver career and educational information services to CNMI public and private schools, as well as to offer support to other related organizations by distributing helpful and updated materials and information.

“[The] Career Fair will be a great opportunity for students to experience the interview process of employment,” said NMIOICC event coordinator Kimberly Delos Reyes, adding that students would have the chance to feel what it is like “stepping into the real world.”

Acting director of NMC Career Services Lynnette Castro said the fair would connect students with the local business community.

“Students might also be able to find future employment before or after graduation, and hopefully get a better understanding of their desired careers,” she said. At the same time, the business community will benefit from the fair because they will be able to observe potential individuals who may fit their local workforce requirements, Castro added.

Both Castro and Delos Reyes are inviting students to the event as this will help them make their way into the workforce environment. Delos Reyes said over 50 high school students and hundreds of NMC students are expected to attend.

Barcinas said there are currently 13 businesses that have confirmed their participation in the Career Fair. These companies are Joeten Ace Hardware, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Leis On Arrival, Tan Holdings Corporation, Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, Coastal Resource Management Office, Office of Personnel Management, Division of Environmental Quality, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Department of Labor, Medicare Certified Home Health Care Agency, Commonwealth Health Center, and Small Business Development Center.

Interested parties and businesses can contact Barcinas and Delos Reyes through 234-1457 or through fax 234-0759. They can also e-mail the committee at kimberlyd@nmcnet.edu or nicoleb@nmcnet.edu for reservations. (PR)
