NMHC unveils more expansive reception area
The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. recently completed construction work on the front portion of the office, providing a wider reception area to accommodate the agency’s growing clientele. The newly built wing also provides additional public bathrooms.
In a statement, board chair Manuel A. Sablan said the entrance to the office would be officially opened to the public on Thursday, April 13, 2006.
The project widens the scope of the building’s Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility and compliance and comes equipped with a fully automated entry walk-up and sensor doors. The project was funded by Community Development Block Grant as part of ADA upgrades to the central office in Garapan.
Sablan also announced other CDBG projects that are near completion. These are the Susupe Track and Field Lighting System; the Phase II expansion of the Tinian Public Library; and the construction of the Rota Community Youth Center in Sinapalo.
Other projects that have already been approved by the board and the Housing and Urban Development-Honolulu Office for funding are: On Saipan, the Northern Marianas Japan Cultural Center and the Independent Living Transitional Model Home that are now in bid solicitation stage.
“The board, staff and management of NMHC wish to express their profound gratitude to Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, the Commonwealth Legislature; Mark Chandler, director, Community Planning and Development Program, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD Honolulu Office and his staff for their support of NMHC’s housing and community development programs,” said Sablan.
