San Antonio Sixers II barged into the quarterfinals of the 2006 Inter-Village Youth Basketball League playoffs after eliminating the Sparks, 36-27, Thursday at the Garapan Basketball Court.

Both teams played to a 6-6 deadlock in the opening eight minutes of the ballgame with Juanito Sambile firing four points for Sixers II and Dave Jones responsible for all of the points for the Sparks.

San Antonio had more balanced scoring in the second quarter, getting two points each from Sambile, Trista Ecalnea, Aaron Agtarap, and Josh Roberto to counter the five points put up collectively by Jones and Eli Pangelinan to go up 14-11 at the break.

Agtarap and Mark Palacios paced Sixers II’s surge in the third quarter to help their team outscore Matansa 16-11 in the period and took a 30-22 spread going into the fourth and final quarter.

Both teams struggled for points in the payoff period with Sixers II adding only six and Sparks five points to their point total and as a result the latter took the nine-point win.

Agtarap led Sixers II with 12 points, while Sambile and Palacios added eight points apiece.

Jones led Sparks in the loss with a game-high 13. Dominic Reyes punched in nine in support.

Sixers II will play pennant runner-up Garapan Rollers I on Wednesday at the same venue.
