The 2006 Liberation Day committee is looking for volunteers, entertainers and concessionaires for the upcoming celebration in June.

Liberation Day Committee public information officer Reina Camacho said the group is in need of generous volunteers to help them come up with the biggest and the grandest Liberation Day celebration in the CNMI.

Camacho said they are also looking for entertainers to add flavor of the festivities. She said interested musicians and other entertainers could sign up in time for the June celebrations. “They could reach me at 664-8522 if they also want to be part of the committee,” she said.

Meanwhile, the extensive grounds of the American Memorial Park could still be the next site of the Liberation Day festivities this June, according to Camacho. She said there is still no go signal from the Department of Public Lands about the use of the Garapan Fishing Base as this year’s site for the festivities.

“Nothing substantial yet,” said Camacho.

She said the Garapan Fishing Base could accommodate at least 30 concessionaires but the memorial park’s grounds would accommodate at least 50.

Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela earlier said during the regular Liberation Day Committee meeting that their request to use the Garapan Fishing Base has yet to be granted by Public Lands.

The mayor said he would still have to follow up with acting Public Lands Secretary John Del Rosario to finalize the venue for the yearly celebration.

This year’s committee chairman, Tony LG. Cabrera, said in an earlier weekly meeting that the celebration this year would be bigger because it would be the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Camp Susupe.

Past queens, grand marshals, former marshals, and mayors will be included in the July 4th celebration. Suggested theme for this year is “Liberasion Taotao Marianas,” which will be printed in three languages: Chamorro, Carolinian, and English.
