Camacho makes the cut on National Honor Roll
Sixteen-year-old Vince Lui Duenas Camacho has made it to the roster of academic achievers in the high-powered list of the National Honor Roll, Awards for Academic Achievement.
A high school junior at the John McEacheran High School in Georgia, the grandchild of Ben and Annie Duenas of the CNMI has been selected for induction into the 2005/2006 National Honor Roll for outstanding academic achievement.
The 2005/2006 National Honor Roll will include Camacho’s name and biography as one of America’s leading high school students. National Honor Roll Student Nomination Committee chair Lynn Romeo said once inducted, Camacho would have an opportunity to showcase his accomplishments in academics, clubs and activities, sports, volunteer efforts, and community service among others.
“Qualifying as a National Honor Roll inductee brings many exciting benefits,” Romeo said, adding that since the inception of the award giving body, it has already awarded over $140,000 worth of scholarships for students.
Romeo said this year the National Honor Roll has set aside $25,000 to be shared among 25 of its qualifying inductees from the 2005/2006 school year.
Camacho’s biography could receive widespread exposure when the book is released and published in July. Copies of the book will be distributed to the Office of the Governors, U.S. senators, and selected high school libraries.
Camacho is the son of Capt. Lawrence and Gina Camacho.
As a member of the National Honor Roll, Camacho has also the exclusive opportunity to compete for a Community Contribution Scholarship and the College Admissions Notification Service will notify the college of his choice regarding his superior and community achievement.
