Fitial swears in 4 to CDA board
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial swore in yesterday the four newly confirmed Commonwealth Development Authority board members.
The four, who were previously appointed to the CDA board under the Babauta-Benavente administration, are Merced M. Tomokane, Vincent M. Calvo, Edwin M. Hofschneider, and Pedro I. Itibus.
Fitial appointed the four board members after they dutifully tendered their courtesy resignations as a gesture of respect and goodwill. The four CDA board members tendered their courtesy resignations shortly after the Fitial-Villagomez administration assumed office in January.
“True to his word, Governor Fitial set politics aside and appointed the four CDA board members, even though they were appointees of the previous administration,” said press secretary Charles Reyes Jr.
“Governor Fitial is not interested in partisan politics after the election,” Reyes added. “The governor is primarily interested in achieving results for the people of the Commonwealth.”
Before being sworn in, the CDA board members had lengthy discussions with the governor Friday morning. The board members, who were accompanied by key CDA staff, vowed to promote local entrepreneurship and tighten CDA’s financial management to ensure sound operations based on prudent standards and benchmarks.
A key concern of the administration is the separation of board and management functions at CDA. This includes the compensation of board members, as well as the tendency of boards to engage in the micromanagement of their agencies. Fitial also wants ethical lending practices to prevail, so that CDA’s delinquency rates can be markedly reduced and brought in line with private sector standards of accountability.
Carlyne Sablan, Espie Borja, and acting CDA executive director Oscar Camacho were also present in the governor’s meeting with the four re-appointed CDA board members. Sablan is CDA’s economic development analyst and Borja is the executive assistant to the CDA board and executive director. (PR)
