APRIL PEPSI/SBA MONTHLY ROLL-OFFS THIS SUNDAY AND MONDAY
The Saipan Bowling Association will hold its two-day April Pepsi King and Queen of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament on Sunday, April 8, and Monday, April 9, at the Capital Bowling Center.
Sunday’s roll-off would begin as early as 4pm, while Monday’s competition starts at 6pm. Awarding ceremonies immediately follow the end of competition on Monday.
Members have the option to bowl on the Sunday or Monday, or on both days, provided that the $15 entry fee is paid. Bowlers who did not bowl on Sunday will be given priority for the Monday shift.
The number of bowlers will be limited to 80 players on Sunday and 56 players on Monday. Only the higher score will count for the tournament. The champion is guaranteed $100 in prize money but it could go up to as much $150 depending on the number of participants. Women participants will only have separate prizes if there are at least 10 entries.
Youth bowlers (12 to 19 years old, not bowling in any leagues or averaging less than 160 in any league) will only bowl on Sunday. Entry fee is $10.
SOPHIA WALK THIS SUNDAY
The wildly popular SOPHIA Walk event is scheduled to get underway on Sunday, April 9, with registration starting at 4:30pm at the Chamolinian Cultural Village.
As with years past, participants will stretch their legs and take in the sights as they walk along the Beach Road pathway in Garapan from the village toward the Hyatt Regencu Saipan pavilion at Micro Beach, and continue to the turnaround point near the future site of the Puerto Rico Park and back to the village.
Last year there were 114 participants who took the stroll alongside the beautiful waters of the Saipan Lagoon, including 22 participants from the Turtle Association of Japan—whose members stretch across the entire nation.
According to SAIWAI officer Mario Espeleta, the event is considered special because it was started by the former first lady Sophia Tenorio.
The cost to enter the SOPHIA Walk is $6, and includes the evening fun as well as refreshments. For more information about the SOPHIA Walk, contact Espeleta by calling 287-8786.
