Youth cagers will get another opportunity to showcase their skills on the hard court as the Saipan Youth Basketball League Mayor’s Cup is set to begin on April 24.

This according to SYBL coordinator Jesse Tudela, who said during an interview earlier this week that all interested teams must have a representative present at an important meeting that will be held today at 5pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.

Tudela said the tournament will be open to only male cagers between the ages of 14 and 19 years from Kagman, Oleai, San Antonio, Chalan Kiya, Susupe, Koblerville, Dandan, Chalan Kiya, and San Vicente.

He said that a tournament was being organized for women it was however scrapped, as the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will open its Women’s Basketball League this month.

Tudela also extended an invitation to all high school teams, such as Kagman, Saipan Southern, and Marianas high schools, and Mt. Carmel School. Other schools are also invited.

The tournament will be two weeks long and will be played from Monday to Thursday each week.

Winners of the two-week tournament will receive trophies and cash prizes.
The tournament is sponsored by the Saipan Mayor’s Office. (Shan Seman)
