Fitial nominates brother, 2 others to Civil Service
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has nominated his brother and two other individuals to serve on the board of the Civil Service Commission.
Fitial on Tuesday announced the appointment of Felix R. Fitial, Alice T. Odoshi, and Daniel H. Nielsen to the commission, the government agency responsible for administration of civil service laws and regulations.
The appointments require Senate confirmation.
If confirmed, Fitial, Odoshi, and Nielsen would fill three of the four vacancies in the board. The CSC board is a seven-member body. The current members are chairman Frank I. Taitano, Leonardo Calvo, and Juan Borja.
The vacancies were left by Vicente Sablan and Eugene Santos, whose terms had expired; Francisco Camacho, who resigned when the Fitial administration stepped in; and Victoria Mendiola, who had passed away.
In related news, the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations has scheduled confirmation hearings for four other appointees.
Sen. Henry H. San Nicolas, chairman of the committee, announced the next set of hearings would be held beginning 9am, Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Senate Chamber.
The appointees who are up for confirmation are Rita L. Arkle, who was named to serve as a member of the Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors; Roman S. Demapan for the Board of Professional Licensing; Norman T. Tenorio for the Marianas Public Land Trust; and Agnes M. McPhetres for the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents.
“With the present situation our Commonwealth economy is in, please be advised the committee may have questions they want to address pertaining to the present and future operation of the department during the hearing. Also, our committee will entertain comments from the general public and government entities,” San Nicolas told the appointees.
