Deleon Guerrero shines in Women’s Classified tourney
Consistency was the key for kegler Lucy Deleon Guerrero, who starred in last Saturday’s Women’s Classified Bowling Tournament at the Saipan Bowling Center.
Deleon Guerrero put on a good show in her first three games, then had just enough juice left in her to top the Class A category.
Joining Deleon Guerrero on the top of the hill were Gigi Zapanta in Class B and Christie Camacho in Class C.
Deleon Guerrero had a decent outing to open her campaign as she left her mark on 182 pins. She then followed with 178 pins before sizzling in her third game with 201 pins. She cooled off a bit, but still had enough to pull through as her 164 pins in the fourth game gave her a total of 725 pins for an average of 181.25 pins per game.
Only 36 pins behind was Diane Camacho, who had her stuff working for her in three of the four games. She started off on the right foot, as she knocked down 196 in her first game, then followed with a decent 180. She struggled in the third game and bowled a pedestrian 132, but remained determined and recovered with 181 pins in her final game for a total of 689 pins. With that, Camacho finished with a respectable average of 172.25 pins per outing.
Capping the top three in Class A was Gina Sablan, who was just five pins behind Camacho and averaged 171 pins per game. Sablan had a hot start as she drilled 200 pins in her opening game. She slowed down in her second and third games with scores of 145 and 139, but charged back into contention by nailing another 200 pins to close strong with a total of 684 pins.
Others in the category with their total scores in parenthesis include Mindy Taitano (675), Cindy Taitano (657), Gloria Omechelang (653), Emi Williams (651), Marie Manansala (636), Yolly Breo (610), Sue Ellis (583), and Frances Keremius (582).
For her part, Zapanta was engaged in a tight battle with Vicky Santos and took top honors by knocking down just one pin more than Santos.
Zapanta was strong in the first game with 185 pins compared to Santos’ 156, but Santos was able to close the gap by knocking down 176 pins in the second game while Zapanta had 169 pins. Zapanta was able to stretch her lead when she nailed 181 pins and Santos had 149 pins in the third game, but Santos was far from giving in and stormed back with 166 pins in her fourth game. Zapanta cooled off and bruised 113 pins in the game, giving her just enough for the win.
Zapanta finished with 648 pins and an average of 162 pins per game while Santos had 647 pins and a 161.75 average.
Diane Babauta took third place with 588 pins with an average of 147 pins per game.
Others include Dora Decena (559), Evelyn Calvo (544), and M.J. Taitano (543).
Meanwhile, Christie Camacho had her way in Class C and finished with 553 pins for the win. She averaged 138.25 pins per game after knocking down 162, 126, 120, and 145 pins in her four outings.
Placing second was Shelly Sablan with 513 pins, while Donna Hensley took third with 506 pins.
Others in the category include Carrie Camacho (497), Maryanne Kileleman (484), Dadang Camacho (471), Mary Castro (444), Ling Curley (387), and Terry Kisa (379).
