Camacho pilots Patriots over Sox, 10-0
Brian Camacho did it all for the high flying Patriots over the weekend as the ace pitched a complete game two-hit shutout against the Red Sox on Saturday in continuation of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association at Tan Ge Field.
Camacho did it all for the P-men as he blanked the Sox through five innings and fanned seven to pick up the win, but he aided his cause at the plate as well with a solid 2-for-3 performance that yielded a single, a double, and a pair of runs batted in.
The Patriots scored their runs off of 16 hits, three of which came off the stick of Jonakin Leon Guerrero, who was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of base knocks, a double, and two ribbies. Leon Guerrero also stole a base en route to crossing home plate, while teammate Tony Salas went 2-for-3 with a pair of two-baggers, and shortstop Justin Kintol smacked a pair of base hits on the day.
Neither team managed a run in the first inning, but the Patriots scored four in the bottom of the second before stringing together three consecutive two-run innings until the umpires invoked the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth.
Hustlers 12, Pirates 2
The defending champion Hustlers put the Pirates out of their misery in a hurry on as they dealt 12 runs off offense in only three at bats before the boys in blue showed mercy midway through the fourth inning.
Third baseman Anthony Manalo was perfect at the plate with a pair of base hits and a double that drove in two runs while shortstop A.J. Lizama smacked a single and stole a base for the Hustlers.
Pitcher Jeremy Lizama had a productive day from the hill as he allowed just two runs off of three hits and fanned four through three innings before Joseph Bayline stepped in to close out the top of the fourth with three strikeouts.
McDonald’s 5, Ol’ Aces 2
Patrick Tenorio has already established himself as arguably the best pitcher in the league just a couple of weeks into the season as the ace beat the Aces with nary a scratch to lift McDonald’s to yet another victory.
A week after pitching a no-no, Tenorio gave up two runs off of four hits and fanned a dozen would-be hitters for another complete game win. While his success on the mound didn’t translate to a stellar day at the plate, his teammates picked up the slack.
Third baseman Jonah Villagomez accounted for half of the hits during his perfect 3-for-3 run with a string of singles and a pair of runs batted in.
The rest of the infield scooped up the rest of the hits as Jake Hocog, Sidney Quan, and Eloy Cruz picked up a single apiece.
SENIOR LEAGUE
Marlins 13, Aztecs 3
After rallying from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead, the Aztecs allowed the Marlins to tie the game late before committing a comedy of errors that cost them the game during a mistake-ridden 10-run fiasco in the top of the sixth.
The Marlins scored 10 runs off of four hits and capitalized on two walks, three errors, and a hit batsman to break open what was a 3-3 tie in the top of the six and force umpires to invoke the 10-run mercy rule at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Depending on which dugout you were in, the highlight or lowlight of the inning was Ben Leon Guerrero’s inside-the-park homerun that drove in three runs on his only connection of the day.
Starting pitcher Keoni Pua allowed three runs off of four hits and struck out a pair before Tako Camacho earned the win by blanking the Aztecs through three innings.
BIG LEAGUE
Pirates 13, Comets 9
The mighty Pirates let the Comets come close, but never lost control of the game as they added another convincing win to their resume at Tan Ko field. After taking a 7-2 lead through three innings, the Pirates matched or bested the Comets the rest of the way with a slew of hits from Donovan George and Ofero Taitano.
George went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and triples that drove in two runners, while Taitano went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and three stolen bags.
Starter Eric Tenorio smacked a pair of singles and allowed two runs off of one hit through three innings on the hill before his teammates answered the call.
Tom Camacho allowed three runs off of three hits before Clyde Sablan got the save despite giving up four runs off of five walks and one hit.
