SOCA will include separate report on CUC
This year’s State of the Commonwealth Address will include not only reports from the governor and the Washington resident representative, but the lieutenant governor as well.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial announced Friday that a separate speech would be delivered to tackle the situation of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and the administration’s plans for the corporation.
Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez will provide the third address.
“The State of the Commonwealth Address next month will be unique in that I will report on the Commonwealth’s financial crisis, while the lieutenant governor will report on CUC’s financial crisis,” said Fitial.
The Legislature recently adopted a House joint resolution calling on both Houses to hold a joint session to receive the Fitial’s SOCA and Resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio’s report on the state of the CNMI’s Washington office.
The joint session will be held April 21, 2006, at 10am, at the Honorable Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
The CNMI Constitution requires the governor to report at least annually to the Legislature regarding the affairs of the Commonwealth and new measures that are necessary or desirable for the CNMI.
CNMI statute also directs the Washington representative to report annually to the Legislature on his official activities and federal matters requiring the attention of the government or the CNMI residents.
