A crowd of fans, parents, and players turned out to the watch the Raptors rout the Starz on Wednesday as the 2006 Tinian Little League Association continued with weekday action at the Tinian Municipal Baseball Field.

Pitcher Dennis Borja held the Starz to just three runs off of one hit through four innings and hit teammates backed him up with plenty of offense as the Raptors cruised to a lopsided 14-3 victory.

Borja picked up the complete-game win when the umpires invoked the 10-run mercy rule when the Starz failed to score a pair of runs to extend the game in the bottom of the fourth, but he was hurling with a mission from the start.

The only blemish on Borja’s one-hitter was a triple in the bottom of the fourth, and the ace played the part of heartbreaker by fanning 10 would-be hitters. Borja didn’t have any of the same success when he picked up his bat, but players like shortstop Regino Mundo and left fielder Henry Cabrera had his back.

Mundo went a perfect 3-for-3 with string of singles and three runs scored while Cabrera 2-for-3 with a pair of base knocks and two plate crossings.

The Raptors were the first to get on the board when they posted three runs in the top of the second, but the Starz stayed in the game with a tally in the bottom of the inning. The Raptors continued to score in the third when they added another pair of runs to take a 5-1 advantage, but the real damage came in the top of the fourth when they went off for nine runs off of seven hits before Cabrera flied out to end the at bat.

The Starsz made a rally in the bottom of the inning, but the two-run response was not enough to keep the game alive.
