Sixers I, G-Rollers I keep pace of one another
Archrivals San Antonio Sixers I and Garapan Rollers I kept abreast of each other in the continuation of the 2006 Inter-Village Youth Basketball League the past two nights at the Garapan Basketball Court.
On Wednesday night, Sixers I took on Sixers II but there was no love lost between sister teams as the older and more experienced Sixers I won 60-51.
Sixers I limited Sixers II to just a couple of buckets while scoring a bushel themselves in the opening quarter to forge ahead 18-4.
But Sixers II rallied in the second and managed to put up 17 points to Sixers I’s 16 to head into the halftime break down, 21-34.
They continued to gnaw at the lead and thanks to a combined eight points from Aaron Agtarap and Mark Norita were trailing by just 10 points, 45-35, going into the last eight minutes of the contest.
Sixers I still couldn’t pull away in the payoff period, but Matt Duenas’ eight-point cluster and five points from Nathan Flores proved enough to dash Sixers II’s upset hopes.
Duenas topscored for Sixers I with 18 points while Joe Taitano led Sixers II with14. The win upped Sixers I’s record to 5-0, while the loss dropped Sixers II to 2-2.
On Tuesday, G-Rollers I recorded its fifth win in as many tries after routing Chalan Kanoa Kings, 58-37.
Three Garapan players wound up in double figures led by the 15 points of Josh Moses, while Edward Salito’s 14 paced the Kings, which dropped to 1-5.
