‘We’re already doing 10-hour work-hour cut’
On Tinian, it’s already a 10-hour work-hour reduction per pay period, said Tinian mayor Jose San Nicolas on Tuesday as the Fitial administration continues to modify a planned work-hour reduction program for employees.
The administration said this week that instead of an eight-hour a week reduction, it would just go for a four-hour reduction a week or eight hours per pay period.
This, however, remains a plan as of now.
“We, on Tinian, are implementing a far greater reduction. We’re already on a 10-hour reduction per pay period,” said San Nicolas.
It is not known yet if the local government would implement further reduction in work-hours or adopt the central government’s proposed eight-hour reduction scheme.
San Nicolas earlier said that his office was looking at cutting the daily work-hour by up to three hours. He said yesterday that this is not being done yet.
Meantime, the mayor said that Tinian government offices continue with their usual business operation schedule, which is from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
“There’s shifting of schedule to make sure that we are open by 7:30am. There’s some flexibility for employees,” said the mayor.
He said the employees can choose to reduce their work-hour by an hour daily or use it all at once.
“It’s up to them. The employees have flexibility,” he said.
The municipal office employs over 150 employees.
