NMA to host All-Schools, coaches’ workshop, Micro Qualifiers
Northern Marianas Athletics recently announced that it would once again host the McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships, which will be slated for May 6 at the Oleai Sports Complex.
As in the past, qualifiers will be held throughout the coming months as a lead up to the Championships.
According to NMA coaches’ director Elias Rangamar, the first qualifier sessions will be held from March 27 to March 30. Schedules and registration forms will be delivered to various schools around the island this week.
The competition will feature four age groups for boys and girls including 7-9 year olds, 10-11 year olds, 12-14 year olds, and 15-18 year olds.
Also expected to compete again during the Championships are teams from Rota and Tinian, which will have automatic slots in each event.
Meanwhile, Rangamar said NMA would host a workshop for coaches from 4pm to 7pm on March 24 and 8am to 2pm on March 25 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.
“The workshop will focus on the basics of all track events, the principles of coaching, designing training sessions, and injuries, among others,” Rangamar said.
There will be no fee for individuals interested in taking part in the workshop.
“I hope to see all the schools participate,” Rangamar said, citing the importance of prepping coaches in hopes of providing better training environments for the young athletes.
Also, Rangamar disclosed that NMA would host a qualifier for the CNMI team to the 6th Micronesian Games on March 25 at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Among the events to be featured during the Games are the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer throw, long jump, triple jump, high jump, heptathlon for women, octathlon for men, relays, half marathon, and cross country.
