Ron Cal feeling regal once again
Ron Cal won back-to-back Pepsi Queen of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament after rolling the highest total in the women’s division Monday at the Saipan Bowling Center.
Not content with the 663 pinfalls she scored Sunday, the Sampaloc, Manila native returned to the San Jose venue on Monday and bucked a slow start to follow up her February victory in the same event at the Capital Bowling Center.
Cal took some time to warm up and knocked down a pedestrian 149 in her first game. She, however, returned to form in her second trip to the wooden lanes, bruising 190 pins and then went unconscious with a 200 in her third game before capping her performance with a 169. She wound up with 708 pinfalls and an average of 177 in the four-game series.
The Gualo Rai resident said she was surprised with her back-to-back monthly victories but attributed her recent success to her rededication to the sport.
Diana Camacho finished second with 691 pinfalls and an average of 172.75 after rolling a series of 169, 188, 178, and 156. She was followed by Emi Williams, who was good for 685 and 171.25 after coming up with 166, 178, 169, and 169.
Gloria Omechalang wound up fourth with her 663 and 165.75. She rolled a four-game series of 159, 190, 140, and 174. The Top 4 came away with monetary prizes, with Cal earning $70, Camacho $35, Williams $20, and Omechalang $15.
The rest of the Top 10, with their scores in parenthesis, were as follows: Gina Sablan (659 pinfalls); Marie Manansala (657); Sophie Fejeran (647); Yho Villavicencio (645); and Emi Williams (625).
The March Pepsi Queen of the Lanes drew a total of 30 entries. Like the King of the Lanes, the tournament is sponsored by Pepsi and Pacific Trading Co. and is organized by the Saipan Bowling Association.
