More stolen EMO disaster supplies dumped
More disaster relief supplies that were among those stolen during a burglary at the Emergency Management Office’s storage room on Capitol Hill were dumped in a bushy area in Koblerville.
Recovered were three camping tents, one lantern, one first aid kits, two gas cans, and box of blankets, according to Maj. Edward H. Manalili yesterday.
Manalili, chief of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, told the Saipan Tribune that detectives found the items scattered at the old airstrip on Monday.
Manalili said the area was the same location where police recovered Sunday night six camping tents, 12 Coleman stoves, 11 Coleman lanterns, six first aid kits, seven gas cans, and two fire extinguishers.
DPS received a call Sunday night that some of the disaster relief supplies have been dumped at the old strip.
To make sure that they did not miss anything, detectives went back to the location daytime Monday, during which they found more items.
Manalili said they believe that the suspects threw the items after learning that investigators are tracking them down.
Although police have recovered most of the stolen items, no one has been arrested yet.
Detectives are eyeing three men as behind the burglary.
The disaster relief packages, worth $800 each, were reportedly among the 130 boxes donated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency when a supertyphoon battered the Commonwealth sometime in 1998.
