The ever-pleasant climate in the CNMI does a great job masking the passage of time, but representatives from the Northern Marianas Islands Volleyball Association are urging all of Saipan’s bumpers, setters, and spikers to ready for the hard courts in advance of the 16th Annual Jam Attack.

The highly competitive six-on-six action returns to the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium a week and a half from now on Friday, March 24, for a back-and-forth affair through the air and continues through Sunday, March 26, as teams of men and women from near and far fight for the Oleai prize.

NMIVA vice president Taula Peter said that squads of top men and women have already added their names to the growing list of competitors looking to knock off the defending champs from Guam.

The Guamanians are not looking to vacate their throne quite so easy, and a couple of teams from Guam have already answered the call for a return visit to returning to Saipan.

Organizers are also hoping that teams from Tinian and Rota return to Saipan for the event, and after fielding requests to survey the players in advance of the 2006 Micronesian Games tryouts, they know that talent is there.

The registration fee for the Jam Attack is $125 per team, and the deadline to enter is a week from now on Wednesday, March 22.

Last year Team Haggan of Guam emerged from a pack of six teams to take the women’s division of the 15th Annual Jam Attack in an all-Guam finals against Isa in straight sets, while the Bombers of Guam soldiered up to eke out the final two sets by two-points apiece to win the men’s division over the local No Fear squad.

The indoor war on the floor has been held in January in previous years, but due to lat year’s takeover of the local volleyball scene by NMIVA and the success of last year’s event, organizers decided to stick with the hosting in March.
