Two women convicted of beating up woman
Two women accused of beating up a woman last year had entered a guilty plea in Superior Court.
Severene Kosam, 22, and Concepcion I. Santiago, 34, entered a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama accepted the defendants’ plea and the agreement. He sentenced Kosam to six months in prison, all suspended except for two days, and sentenced Santiago to six months behind bars, all suspended except for one day.
Lizama gave the defendants credit for the time they had already served in jail and placed them on one year of supervised probation.
The judge ordered Kosam to pay a $300 fine, $25 in court assessment fee, plus probation fee, and required her to perform 120 hours of community work service.
Lizama ordered Santiago to pay a $200 fine, $25 in court assessment fee, plus probation fee, and required her to perform 80 hours of community work service.
The court directed the defendants to write a letter of apology to the victim.
The Attorney General’s Office charged Kosam with two counts of assault and battery, and Santiago with one count of assault and battery. The defendants signed a plea agreement with the government and pleaded guilty to one count of assault and battery.
According to the factual basis of the agreement, on Aug. 6, 2005, Kosam punched the victim and pulled her hair.
Santiago punched the victim while the latter was on the ground and kicked her, court papers said.
