Agents from the Attorney General’s Investigative Unit arrested three women who were allegedly engaged in prostitution on Rota, the Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.

It was said to be the first reported prostitution activity on Rota, one of three major islands in the CNMI known for its peacefulness and hospitable community.

Two AGIU agents and a police official from the Rota Department of Public Safety confirmed the arrest of three Chinese women. They refused to provide details, citing that investigation is ongoing.

The three suspects were brought to Saipan yesterday and taken for a bail hearing before Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo. The hearing was sealed upon the request of Chief Prosecutor Jeffery Warfield Sr.

A Rota official, in an interview with the Saipan Tribune, disclosed that AGIU agents, in coordination with Rota immigration and police, rounded up the women at the LD Night Club in Songsong District 2.

It was not immediately known who owns the nightclub.

The official said the operation was conducted on Sunday night until early Monday morning.

The nightclub underwent renovation from December 2005 to January 2006. It allegedly opened early this year.

A member of the community provided tips to authorities about the alleged prostitution activities in that establishment, said the official, who requested anonymity.

The arrested women did not resist arrest, the official added.

The police official said that, to his knowledge, this is the first prostitution arrest on their island.

“I am glad that we bring good results [arrest], and put an end to this. We like to live in a peaceful and clean community,” the official pointed out.
