The Korean connection of Seung Woon Kang and Jaeyull Jung won last Saturday’s Two-Man Best Ball Tournament held at the Coral Ocean Point Resort golf course.

Kang, a golf instructor, and Jung, a businessman, humbled the competition with their score of nine-under 63, a stroke lower than the eight-under 64 recorded by Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho and his partner Joey Arriola.

There was a three-way tie in third place, as the pairings of Jess Wabol and Tony Satur, Jesse Seman and Joe Lizama, and Korean-born players Park and Lee all wound up with identical scores of seven-under 65.

Wabol and Satur eventually were declared the second runners-up after edging the other pairs in a scorecard tiebreak.

A total of 10 pairs graced the Two-Man Best Ball Tournament held to raise funds for the CNMI National Men’s and Women’s Golf teams for the 6th Micronesian Games.

The other teams, with their scores in parenthesis, were as follows: Bill Kaipat and Sasaki Oliver (67); the mother-and-daughter team of Noriko and Yuko Togawa (69); Delle Grandinetti and Adam Hardwich (70); Sang Kim and Gus Camacho (70); and Rex Palacios and Palikan Thompson (72).

Kang and Jung pocketed $500 for wining the event, while Camacho and Arriola went home with $400. Wabol and Satur came away $300 richer, while the fourth place team got $200.

In the closest to the pin competition, Oliver and Kaipat won hole No. 3, Satur and Wabol took the 12th hole, and Park and Lee beat everyone on hole No. 14. All three teams got $50 each.

Wabol, who is coordinator of the qualifying tournaments for the selection of the national team, thanked everyone who participated in the Two-Man Best Ball Tournament and said they were able to raise $400 for the Micro Games teams.

Wabol is expected to pick five golfers for the men’s team and same number for the women’s team a month or two before the start of the Games, which is set here on Saipan from June 23 to July 2.
