The spelling wizards from Grace Christian Academy Rota took home the bacon after winning first place in the recently concluded 11th Annual Academic Bee Challenge for elementary schools last Saturday.

Garapan Elementary School bagged the second place while GCA Saipan won third place during the contest held at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Building in Susupe.

Marianas High School’s National Honor Society organized the 11th Annual Academic Bee Challenge for elementary schools, which covered and tested the students’ knowledge on subject areas such as English, Mathematics, Fine Arts, Current Events, Sports, History and Geography, and Sciences.

Each team was composed of five players, with three players competing per round, while the other two serving as substitutes when needed. The questions were based on elementary level questions, which required either short answers, multiple choice answers, fill in the blanks, identification or problem solving.

Other participating schools in the competition were Mount Carmel School, Calvary Christian Academy, William S. Reyes Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, Kagman Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, and Oleai Elementary School.

“We were very pleased with the students’ performance during the competition. It was an encouragement for the students and staff of GCA Rota to take part and win in this event,” said GCA-Saipan principal Faith Dela Rosa.

There were three rounds during the ABC Bowl: the easy, medium, and hard questions. At the end of the third round, GCA Rota had the winning lead with 10 points, while GCA Saipan and Garapan Elementary took a tie-breaking question to compete for second and third places.
