3 more appointees up for confirmation

Three Fitial appointees will face the Senate confirmation committee today.

Ernest Williams, acting commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, will appear before the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations at 10am today.

This will be followed by 2pm confirmation hearings for Jerry Tan and Emma Villagomez, both nominated to serve as members of the Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors.

“With the present situation our Commonwealth economy is in, please be advised the committee may have questions they want to address pertaining to the present and future operation of the department during the hearing,” each appointee was told by Senate committee chairman Henry San Nicolas.

The senator also informed the nominees that the committee would entertain comments from the public and government entities.

A U.S. Army officer, Williams moved to Saipan from the U.S. mainland to accept the top DPS position.

Tan, president of Tan Holdings Corp., was appointed to represent the business sector to the MVA board. Villagomez will represent the women’s sector.
