Dela Cruz homers as Kagman scores consecutive victories
Kagman 1-2-3 had a strong start to their campaign in the 2006 Saipan Little League, taking home two wins over the weekend highlighted by a home run by slugger Ricardo Dela Cruz at the Miguel Basa Softball Field.
Dela Cruz and company were silent in the early goings and were down 0-1 against the Tanapag Braves when the slugger spearheaded a five-run fifth inning explosion with a two-run home run, sending the 1-2-3 boys to victory. The team scored an insurance run in the sixth for the 6-1 victory Sunday.
Dela Cruz led the team, going 2-for-3 at the plate with the home run and two runs batted in, while Leroy Regis added a hit, a run, and an RBI.
The day before, Kagman came from behind and scored five runs in the final two innings to beat the Wells Fargo Twins, 7-5.
The Twins opened with a bang, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Twins added another in the fifth inning and led 5-4 heading into the final inning when the Kagman boys struck with their big bats. Kagman had three runners cross home plate to pull off the comeback charge.
Ignacio Benavente led Kagman with a double, a triple, a run, and an RBI, Ben Hocog went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Frank Agulto went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Diego Camacho led the Twins with a hit, two runs, and a base on balls, while Jeremy Atalig had a hit, a run, and two RBIs.
McDonald’s 12, Pirates 9
McDonald’s bounced back from a loss on Saturday and recovered from a slow start to beat the Pirates, 12-9.
The Pirates dominated the first two innings, scoring three runs in the first and going off for six more in the second.
That was the last heard from the Pirates as McDonald’s, which scored four runs in the first, surged back and scored eight runs in the final four innings for the win.
Kevin Villagomez went 3-for-4 with four runs, Patrick Tenorio went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, Ray Tenorio went 2-for-2 with two runs, and Pete Tenorio had a hit and two RBIs for McDonald’s. Nathan Guerrero also had three hits, a run, and an RBI.
Joseph Hofschneider and Sato Shu each had a hit, a run, and an RBI to lead the Pirates.
Matrix 7, Red Sox 6
The Toyota Matrix came from behind and had just enough power to beat the Red Sox, 7-6.
The Matrix sluggers were trailing by three runs, 1-4, after three innings, but refused to throw in the towel and fought back to pull off the comeback. After scoring a run in the fourth inning, the Matrix players exploded for four runs in the fifth and scored another in the final inning to slip through.
Rocko Reyes led the Matrix with a hit and three runs while R.J. Knecht had a hit and a run.
Alex Monkeya led the Red Sox with a triple, a run, and two RBIs, while Anthony Leon Guerrero scored twice.
Hustlers 7, Braves 2
On Saturday, the Hustlers began their push on the right foot and dominated to beat the Braves, 7-2.
Dayline Joseph had a hit, an RBI, and a run while Anthony Manalo had a hit, scored twice, and drew a base on balls to lead the Hustlers, which limited the Braves to two hits. Marvin Ngeskebei also had a hit, an RBI, and a run, while McGeret Duenas went 2-for-3 with a run.
Patriots 10, McDonald’s 0
The Joeten Motors Patriots showcased their skills in their opening bout and shut down McDonald’s, 10-0.
Brian Camacho went 2-for-3 with a run and also did a spectacular job on the mound by allowing just three hits, striking out 11 batters, and giving up just three base on balls.
Justin Kintol also supported with a hit, four runs, and a base on balls to lead the Patriots.
