Free training on ADA-compliant workplace
In celebrating 2006 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities will hold a free training on Americans with Disabilities Act’s Reasonable Accommodation Process in the Workplace.
The workshop, in cooperation with the Office of the Governor’s Office of Disability Policy and Programs, will be held on Thursday from 8am to 12pm at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
The workshop aims to discuss the responsibilities under the ADA’s definition especially its reasonable accommodation process. It will also tackle proper procedures on dealing with applicants or employees with disabilities. It will also define the qualification of an individual with a disability.
Through the training attendees will also become more familiar with the Reasonable Accommodation provisions, essential functions of a particular job, how to identify abilities and limitations, barriers and appropriate accommodations.
The free training will also discuss the responsibilities of employer and employee in the reasonable accommodations process and its effectiveness in the workplace.
The newly created Office of Disability Policy and Programs ADA Technical Assistance Service Center’s Technical Assistant Specialist with 13 years of experience in the industry will facilitate the training.
The new office’s mission is to guide the CNMI in implementing and complying with federal plus Commonwealth disabilities laws through technical assistance hotline, referrals, consultation, and information to assist businesses, employers and persons with disabilities in understanding their responsibilities and rights under the ADA.
