Radio DJ Ken I. Concepcion, also known as KC Lancheru, is the new public information officer for the Department of Public Safety.

Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez and then acting DPS commissioner Juan Wabol appointed Concepcion to be the full-time PIO for the department effective last week.

“It’s a challenging job. It’s something new for me. It’s something that I look forward to doing,” Concepcion told the Saipan Tribune yesterday.

The new PIO vowed to be “very much accessible” to the media. He said he and acting DPS commissioner Ernest Williams would have an open-door policy with the media.

Concepcion added that they are planning to conduct at least a once-a-week press briefing.

Concepcion served as a public health inspector in 1999 to 2003. He worked as a radio personality for KZMI, then served for almost nine years as DJ at Power 99.

Police Officer Eric David was the last designated PIO for DPS.

Maj. Edward H. Manalili, chief of the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau, was then tapped by Wabol to serve also as acting PIO when David was detailed as security for Lt. Gov. Villagomez.
