With about half of the season completed, the 2006 Inter-Government Basketball League now has a new scoring leader.

Edgar Pangelinan of Procurement and Supply has played consistently throughout the season and now sits on top of the scoring list. Despite his team struggling with a 1-7 win-loss record, Pangelinan has something to smile about as he leads the league with an average of 30.2 points per game after drilling 181 points in six games.

Right behind Pangelinan is veteran Jerome Reyes of the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Fire Dawgs, who has put the ball through the hoop for 203 points for an average of 28.4 points per game, while Department of Labor forward Steve Rasa sits right behind with 141 points in five games for an average of 28.2 points per outing.

Last year’s playoff most valuable player Ed Diaz of defending champion No Zone is currently fourth on the list of elite scorers with an average of 24 points per game after sizzling for 191 points in eight games, while power forward Romeo Iginoef of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs is fifth with 142 points in six games for an average of 23.7 points per game. With his efforts, DCCA is currently on top of the league standings with a 6-1 record.

Outside sniper Taj Van Buren of the Public School System continues to shine and is one reason why his team is in the top three in the standings. He is ranked sixth with 161 points in seven games for an average of 23 points per game, while the other half of the ARFF one-two punch follows as Jawn Joyner sports a 22.6 average, scoring 158 points in seven games.

Also making the top 10 are No Zone’s John Sablan, Department of Public Safety Enforcers’ Joe Ito, and Legislature’s Ray Duenas.

Sablan used his shooting skills to rack up 159 points in eight games for an average of 19.9 points per outing; Ito has scored 115 points in six games for a 19.2 average; and Duenas has accounted for 113 points in six games for an 18.9 average.
