Two-man best ball to serve as Micro Games fundraiser
Refaluwasch Golf Association president and Micronesian Games qualifying rounds coordinator Jess Wabol said the club would be hosting a two-man best ball tournament on March 11 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the CNMI National Golf Team for the 6th Micronesian Games set here on Saipan from June 23 to July 2.
Entry fee for the two-man best ball is $100 per person and $200 per pair, with $20 per individual, or $40 per team, going to the kitty bag for the national team.
Wabol said unlike other best ball tournaments, participants get to choose their partners in the March 11 swing-off. He said men would tee off from the white tee, while women will do their thing from the red tee.
He said if a team is composed of a man and a woman, both would have to tee off from the longer white tee.
Earlier, Wabol said the third round of qualification tournaments for players seeking a berth to the CNMI men’s and women’s national golf teams would be held on March 11 at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.
He said eight more rounds from the white tee will be played in the following weeks and said after the first 10 rounds, he would reduce the field to eight players for each division and move on to the longer blue tee.
Wabol is expected to pick five golfers for the men’s team and same number for the women’s team a month or two before the start of the Games.
