Just a few weeks after the completion of the wildly successful Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival, the Northern Marianas Islands Volleyball Association is moving from the sand to the hard courts by focusing on the development of local indoor talent by hosting the 16th Annual Jam Attack.

The high-flying six-on-six action returns to the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Friday, March 24, and continues through Sunday, March 26, when some of the best men’s and women’s teams bump, set, and spike their way toward the championship trophies.

According to NMIVA vice-president Taula Peter, there have been a number of local men’s and women’s teams just itching for a rematch with the defending champs from Guam, and a couple of teams from the southernmost link in the Marianas Islands chain have already expressed interest in returning to Saipan for the challenge.

“The competition will be up because is Guam coming again, so with everyone playing against each other out here it’s good to get an idea of how we’ll fare against off island talent,” said Peter.

Organizers are also hoping that teams from Tinian and Rota return to Saipan for the event.

“There are some talented, high-flying teams competing, and we can’t wait for them get started,” said NMIVA secretary Steve Nguyen.

The registration fee for the Jam Attack is $125 per team, and the deadline to enter is March 22.

Last year Team Haggan of Guam emerged from a pack of six teams to take the women’s division of the 15th Annual Jam Attack in an all-Guam finals against Isa in straight sets, while the Bombers of Guam soldiered up to eke out the final two sets by two points apiece to win the men’s division over the local No Fear squad.

The indoor war on the floor had been held in January in previous years, but due to last year’s takeover of the local volleyball scene by NMIVA and the success of last year’s event, organizers decided to stick with the hosting in March.
