Teenaged inmate escapes from detention but was soon caught
A teenaged inmate escaped from the Juvenile Detention Facility in Kagman on Sunday afternoon, but was later arrested in San Antonio, according to court documents.
Robert Jake Palacios, 18, was detained on escape charges and taken to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing.
Presiding Judge Robert Naraja imposed a $3,000 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for March 9.
Detective Vincent S. Mareham stated in his report that Palacios was at the visitation room of the Juvenile Detention Facility and had asked a staff if he could use a pen.
When the staff opened the door to give him the pen, Palacios ran out from the visitation area toward the parking lot, then proceeded to the hill leading to Santa Soledad Church.
The detention staff went to the control room and called the police.
Mareham said Police Officer Jackson Jack later arrested Palacios in San Antonio and brought him to the Department of Corrections in Susupe.
Mareham said the defendant has been violent toward personnel at the Juvenile Detention Facility.
The detective said Palacios apparently had threatened that he would do something unless he is not transferred to the adult facility.
A day before the incident, Palacios also allegedly tried to escape from the visitation room, but the door at the lobby/exit area was locked.
Instead, the defendant ran toward the gate and slammed the door with his shoulder. The gate’s door was damaged, police said.
