Sure Shots, Hustlers off to good starts
Defending champion Da Place Sure Shots and last season’s runner-up Round Two Hustlers each had auspicious starts to the 2006 Winter/Spring Season of the Budweiser Open 8-Ball League Tuesday night.
Da Place didn’t mind playing their first game on hostile ground, as they put on a 4-2 beating on USSP Dreams at the USS Peleliu Club in the revamped four-team Tapochao Division.
Leading the victory parade for Sure Shots were top guns Jojo Talibong, Senen Pangilinan, Frank Pangelinan, and the doubles pairing of R.J. Mascarinas and Roman Rodriguez. Marvin Cabo and his partnership with Edward Amia were responsible for Dreams’ two wins.
Hustlers, meanwhile, mirrored Sure Shots’ conquest over USSP Fotten Palau at their own digs at Round Two Bar and Grill. Rowell Mariano, Jerry Soriano, Mario Diola, and the tandem of Ike Celis and Joey Lucido put Round Two on the board, while R.E. Rengiil and his team-up with Taylor Watanabe accounted for Fotten Palau’s two victories.
Over at the Banzai Division, Wild Wild West is alone on top of the heap after scoring a 5-1 decision over VFW Pool Warriors at Wild Bill’s.
Just a game behind Wild Wild West in the six-team field is Jewel Night Shooters, which gave newcomer Godfather’s What Doin’ a rude welcome, 4-2, at Godfather’s Bar.
VFW Fotten Gaga II and Vargas Hot Shots had a draw in their match-up leaving VFW Post 3457 in a 3-3 tie. Wild Wild West’s victim VFW Pool Warrior brings up the rear with a 1-5 record.
