Fitial email load doubles up
If his daily email load is any indication, 60-year-old Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s work demand has definitely doubled up or tripled since assuming his post early last month.
Fitial said in an interview Friday that he gets an average of 200 emails a day.
This does not include spam emails “since I have a spam filter,” he said.
As House speaker in the 14th Legislature, Fitial said he received an average of “only” 75 emails daily.
“I do all my emails. I mean I answer my emails directly,” he said.
He said he usually checks his email upon waking up in the morning.
Fitial, who admitted being diabetic during a gubernatorial debate last year, said the work schedule of a chief executive is really toxic but he said that he can manage.
“There’s plenty of schedule. You have to be here, there. It’s non-stop,” he said.
Fitial said he usually wakes up as early as 4am or 5am to do his daily routine, including his email checking.
He said he goes to work between 7:30am to 8am and leaves office from 6pm to 7pm.
Prefers brief meetings
He said he tries as much as possible to stick to his schedule but there are times when people just pop out wanting to see him.
“People are calling ‘can we have breakfast?’ I’d say yes but then breakfasts often last more than the meeting,” he said.
If he has a choice, he would want to limit meetings to 10 to 15 minutes to be able to meet more people and do his office work.
Due to his hectic schedule, Fitial said he usually sleeps at midnight. (Liberty Dones)
