The Garapan Rollers I earned their second straight victory in the ongoing 2006 Island-wide Village Youth Basketball Wednesday evening, beating the San Antonio Sixers II, 45-31, at the Chalan Kanoa Basketball Court.

The boys from Garapan got a huge boost early on as Rodney Salas caught fire with eight points to match the entire production of Sixers II. Salas got some help and saw his team hold an 11-8 advantage after the first period.

The Sixers II players were able keep pace with their opponents and matched G-I point for point in the second quarter, preventing the G-Rollers from padding their lead. With that, San Antonio headed into the halftime break still within striking distance, 18-21.

Unfortunately for the southern boys, G-Rollers I standout Jericho Cruz got into a rhythm at the start of the second half and began to spearhead a big G-I run.

Cruz sizzled for eight points and his teammates combined for eight more as the G-Rollers outscored San Antonio, 16-6, to stretch their lead to 13 points with a quarter remaining, 37-24.

The G-Rollers cooled off and were limited to eight points in the final eight minutes of play, but were still in good shape as they also held San Antonio to just seven points to leave with the 14-point victory margin.

Cruz led G-I with 12 points, while Salas and cage belle Nicole Lebria pumped in 10 and six points, respectively.

Joe Taitano and Mark Manaluz paced San Antonio with 10 and seven points.
